Professional and empathetic psychological healing

RJT

I offer a space for adults ready to explore trauma recovery and attachment wounds through deep, attuned psychological work. My approach is tailored to your unique journey toward clarity and healing.

My Approach

Therapeutic setting

A deeper approach to therapy

My approach combines integrative psychotherapy with EMDR and Somatic Experiencing.

Talking and thinking about what has happened to you can be extremely valuable. But difficult experiences can also become embedded in the nervous system and influence how we respond to situations long after the original circumstances have passed.

EMDR and somatic approaches can help us work with these responses at a deeper level, while the therapeutic relationship provides a safe place to explore what is happening.

The aim isn’t simply to understand your past.

It’s to help you have more choice in the present.

Experience & Expertise

Professional Attunement

What does attunement actually mean?  It means I am not just listening to you; I am in tune with you and walking alongside you as we explore your issues.  It means that, whilst I might on occasion offer you solutions, I work with you to find the actions, solutions and ways of being that are right for you and that suit who you are.  Somatic practices like Somatic Experiencing and EMDR actually tap into the body's capacity for self-healing; my job is to help facilitate and guide this.

Complex Presentations

I worked for over ten years in an inpatient mental health setting, working with patients struggling with drug and alcohol addiction and other mental health conditions, for the last four years leading a team of addiction therapists.  I am used to complex clients with difficult histories whilst managing things like safeguarding and risk.  I am happy to work with people struggling with substance abuse issues and compulsive behaviours but I also work with people who just feel stuck for some reason and want help to move forward.  I have also worked with many neurodivergent clients.

Trauma Recovery

I entered this field because of my own experience of trauma, subsequently qualifying as as a therapist and then training in modalities like Somatic Experiencing and EMDR.  What I found was that, whilst traditional psychotherapy can be excellent at understanding and managing why you may have the symptoms you do, trauma focussed modalities actually start to reduce those symptoms over time.  Sometimes, instead of continuing to live with symptoms, it is possible to move beyond them.

Why work with me?

I’ve been working as a psychotherapist since 2014 and have spent more than ten years working in specialist addiction and trauma treatment.

I’ve also managed clinical teams and treatment programmes, giving me extensive experience of working with people experiencing complex and longstanding difficulties.

You don’t have to be in crisis to come to therapy

You don’t need to have everything falling apart before therapy becomes worthwhile.

Sometimes the reason for coming is simply:

“I know something isn’t right, and I don’t want to carry on like this.”

You may have reached a point where you want to understand yourself better, improve your relationships, process experiences from your past or simply feel more comfortable being yourself.

Whatever brings you to therapy, we can start where you are.
